Ontario’s Health System Action Plan for Syrian Refugees
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) is working with federal, provincial and health system partners to support Syrian refugee resettlement taking place right now in Ontario.
To date Minister Hoskins has released two memos on the Syrian Refugee crisis and the assistance the MOHLTC, health service and other community providers are providing. The MOHLTC will continue to share information with the health service provider sector, as well as the public throughout the resettlement process via their website
. Everyone is encouraged to check this website frequently for the latest MOHLTC updates relating to the health system during the resettlement process both locally and provincially.
The Health System Action Plan: Syrian Refugees was developed as a guide in supporting the arrival and integration of Syrian refugees in Ontario. It includes information and related both to government assisted and privately sponsored refugees.
There are also resources that health system partners may reach out to with any questions:
- MOHLTC Syrian Refugee website
- The Refugee HealthLine will play a key role in connecting refugee patients with health service providers. Providers interested in participating can contact 1-866-286-4770 to add their name, practice, location, service and the number of prospective patients they are able to take on. Refugees and/or their sponsors can also call this number and can be connected with an available provider in their local community from the registry.
